HOUSTON, TX – April 28, 2025 – Under clear blue skies, Career and Recovery Resources, Inc. (CRR) welcomed a gathering of 240 guests for its annual Picnic at the Polo Club on Sunday, April 27 at the Houston Polo Club. Held in support of CRR’s mission of serving Houstonians since 1945, the event spotlighted the organization’s work helping people live a life of self-determination and financial stability through behavioral and physical wellness, education, workforce development, and affordable housing.
Chaired by beloved Houston media personalities Frank Billingsly and Kevin Gilliard, the afternoon blended Texas charm with philanthropic purpose under the theme Polo & Boots. Guests included CRR Board members, community leaders, and elected officials—including Houston City Council Member Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz—who gathered to celebrate and support CRR’s ongoing impact across the Greater Houston area.
Tables were elegantly adorned with red and white roses arranged in custom cowboy boot vases, perfectly reflecting the event’s rustic elegance. Guests sipped on the signature cucumber lemonade and enjoyed a gourmet spread by The Lymbar, a celebrated Houston culinary destination, while enjoying a thrilling polo match in a relaxed and joyful setting.
Proceeds from Picnic at the Polo Club directly support CRR’s wide array of services, including employment and supportive services, counseling and outpatient substance use treatment programs, homeless prevention and housing placement, and UpRise Enterprise. Launched in 2019, UpRise Enterprise is CRR’s social enterprise initiative, designed to help individuals with high barriers to employment earn income and chart a sustainable path toward financial stability.
The success of the afternoon was made possible thanks to generous sponsors including H-E-B, OneDigital, Advantage BMW, Bridging the Gap Pediatrics, The Faykus Foundation, CenterPoint Energy, EEPB, Hancock Whitney, Love Always Boutique, and Community Health Choice.
